The First Indie Game Worth Checking Out.

March 17th, 2009

As I was going through one of my sporadic OnRPG forum browsing, I came across this topic. If you don’t want to take a look for yourself, here’s the gist of it:

* New indie game called Islands of War
* Not playerworlds. IE actually pretty nice looking
* Unique races (Humans, Avions, Orcs, Azarian) and classes (Earth, Life, Death, Water)
* Beta coming March 25th, 2009.

Here’s a screenshot of the game (it’s not great looking, but it’s passable, in my opinion):

If any of that has you interested at all, check out the website: http://islandsofwar.com

And if you’re convinced that you want to give the game a try, hit them up with your beta application. You can find the instructions here: http://islandsofwar.com/media_page_beta.html

I’ve sent out my application to Beta test the game, and hopefully it works out; the game seems fairly interesting. Not something I’d expect to be spectacular by any means, but I’m not looking for anything spectacular. =)

If anyone gets into the beta (I’m assuming it won’t be too hard), hit me up here or where ever and we can get in-game together. Have a little bit of fun, hopefully.

Peace.

I gotta be a simple minded person.

March 2nd, 2009

Me and some friends went to see the movie “The International” yesterday. I had great hopes in the movie on beforehand, because it looked pretty sweet from the trailers. Also Clive Owen played the main character, and I personally think he is a very skilled actor. I can’t recall that he has been in a bad movie lately. For example Sin City and the Inside man are two very good movies, that I personally enjoyed.

Ok, so back to this movie. For you who haven’t heard about this movie, it’s about a big and evil bank that is making a lot of sneaky business (like weapon dealing in third world conflicts). In order for them to do this busniess without any interferance, they have corrupted the justice system everywhere and everybody that tries to uncover their business will either face death or mysteriously disappear. Clive Owen plays an Interpol agent that has been on their tracks for several years but never managed to uncover their business. Mostly because all snitches or witnesses end up dead before he can put them in a court. So in this movie he continues to struggle in the name of justice to make the responsible CEO’s pay for their hideous crimes. As you hear this movie is quite nicely timed with an on-going economic crisis that is mostly caused by banks and their uncareful businesses.

The movie is overall very entertaining with a relatively “smart” story and lots of action. I found myself enjoying the movie while watching it, until the screen suddenly went black and the movie ended. Call me a simple minded person, but I expect my movies to have a definite end. And I’m not talking about those ends where you are supposed to fill in the blanks yourself. I’m talking about those uncalled for ends you get when you get a Game Over screen in a video game. It’s like a punch in the face saying “lol all your struggle was in vain”. Me and my friends was filled by rage afterwards, thanks to this anti-climatic end that totally ruined the whole experience. I’m not sure if they are doing this in order to make a sequel or to sell the message that evil can never really be defeated. Both options are stupid since they both leave you with an empty feeling afterwards.

Damn what happened to those ordinary Hollywood movies with cheesy endings?

Atlus Online releases their new forums!

February 25th, 2009

Somebody has probably noticed this is my third blog about Atlus. Sorry about that, but I love Atlus.

Atlus Online has now released their official community forums for their new portal. Since Atlus and Atlus Online are not the same division, they have a totally separate website and forum from each other, although if you had an account on Atlus.com before February 24th, 2009, you’ll need not to register on Atlus Online. Simply hop on over there and log in; it’s that simple!

If you’re not comfortable going on over to their forums, you can register to their newsletter and just get your updates in your e-mail. Another alternative is to check out my blog for all of the up-and-coming stuff that this new Atlus Online Portal will offer.

Nintendo DSi coming April 5, 2009; US release.

Nintendo pioneered hand-held entertainment in the ’80s and made it fully mobile with the Game Boy video game system. Now, Nintendo is transforming the way people access, experience, create and share content with the new Nintendo DSi system, the third iteration of the world’s best-selling portable video game system. Nintendo DSi launches in the United States on April 5, 2009, at an MSRP of $169.99. The colors available at launch will be Blue and Black.

“Ever since the arrival of the first Game Boy, consumers worldwide have turned to Nintendo for their portable gaming,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Nintendo DSi builds on Nintendo’s commitment to bringing fun and creative entertainment to everyone, and will allow consumers to personalize and share their very own experiences.”

Some features that will be built into the system and ready to enjoy upon purchase include the Nintendo DSi Camera, Nintendo DSi Sound and Nintendo DSi Shop. The most noticeable feature of the slim Nintendo DSi system is its two cameras – one camera is on the external body, and the second one points at the user when the device is flipped open. As the first truly interactive digital camera in a video game system with 10 different interactive “lenses” that can manipulate your photos, the Nintendo DSi Camera offers an easy way to take and share your photos with family and friends. The cameras also present people with unprecedented ways to interact with their games while giving developers a new tool to devise creative games and experiences. If the touch screen gave Nintendo DS a sense of feel and the microphone allowed it to hear, the two cameras give Nintendo DSi the sense of sight.

Another enhanced feature is the Nintendo DSi Sound application, which serves as both an interactive voice recorder and music player that allows users to play with their music while they listen to it. Users can access different audio filters or control the pitch and speed of recorded voice or music files to alter voices or change the tempo of a song. The mic is located between the two screens when the device is flipped open, and there is also a stereo headphone output that lets users listen to music saved on an SD card, even with the screen shut.

In the world of software, Nintendo DSi will be the platform for the most relevant and fun on-the-go games and applications. The Nintendo DSiWare application will populate Nintendo DSi with software that can be downloaded using Nintendo DSi Points directly to the portable system, just as WiiWare has with Nintendo’s Wii console. Developers big and small are invited to create software that makes use of the properties and functions of the hardware. Nintendo DSiWare games and applications will be available at a range of values, starting at 200 points.

In addition to downloadable games, Nintendo DSi is able to play games made specifically for the system and sold at retail. The system can also play most Nintendo DS™ games, and will have access to a library of more than 850 titles originally made for that system.

Also on April 5, a new Nintendo DS game, Rhythm Heaven, will join this roster of games available for both Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DS owners in the United States. Having sold more than 1.6 million copies since its July 2008 launch in Japan and still increasing sales today, this infectious game challenges players to tap and slide the stylus on the touch screen in time to original music created by legendary Japanese pop-star producer TSUNKU♂. Simple gestures with the stylus combined with fun music and quirky visuals make Rhythm Heaven a completely unique musical experience for players of all ages.

Additional features and news of Nintendo DSi will be revealed as April 5 approaches. For more information about Nintendo DSi, visit Nintendo DSi and DSiWare Official Web site.

Atlus Online announces its first title; Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent

February 23rd, 2009

Neo Steam

From Sporkle:

Howdy Atlus Faithful and existing Neo Steamers!

If you have meandered on over to our little neck of the woods from the previous global servers, let me be the first to welcome you to our crazy community. We are happy to have ya and look forward to chattin’ it up with you.

So yes, Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent is our first licensed title.

http://neosteam.atlusonline.com.

We are really excited to be bringing this steampunk MMO to our portal. There is already a fantastic community that lives and breathes Neo Steam (well maybe not breathes because I don’t know if that stuff is toxic… it glows so it must not be good for your respiratory system) and we know each and every one of them will make an excellent addition to the Atlus Online community.

I’ve heard the question, “what will they do with the localization?” That’s a great question and I’d love to answer it for you! Atlus has always been known for top quality localization of every game we release to the public. Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent is no different. We are working diligently on the text throughout the entire game (monster names, weapons, armor, NPCs, quest text, area names, special abilities, class titles, etc) to make sure that you are fully immersed in the game and ready to explore the world in all its magnificence.

Another question I’ve heard is, “is this the same version that we played on the global servers?” No sir (or ma’am). This is an updated version of the game with new content, items, graphics and other things that we will be letting you know about leading up to our Open Beta. When will the Open Beta start? Our team is working around the clock on localization and quality assurance to make sure we are only bringing you a quality experience.

Our Game Master team is anxious to interact with you in-game with special events and contests. We are all really big fans of the game and are confident that you will become a fan as well.

I’ll keep you up to date with where we are at with everything so stay tuned!

One last thing, the Atlus Online forums will be moving to our more permanent home shortly! If you had an existing Atlus.com forum account up to the point when we go live with our new forums, all you will need to do is just login! We will be sending out an email to the existing pre-registered Atlus Online members shortly on how to complete their registration. New registrations will sign up directly through the site or you can pre-register right now at www.atlusonline.com.

See you there, or here right now, or in the forums, or somewhere else.

IRVINE— Atlus Online Goes “Steampunk” with First Title, Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent

IRVINE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Atlus Online, a daily destination for community-focused gaming and interactive entertainment, today announced Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent as the first game to kickoff its portal. Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent is the only massively multi-player online role-playing game (MMORPG) of its kind, set in the uniquely creative genre of “steampunk,” where 19th century steam-based technology meets fantasy inventions.

“With an engaging, steampunk-inspired storyline and aesthetic, Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent is a fresh take on the standard ‘fantasy’ MMO game genre,” said Shinichi Suzuki, president and CEO, Atlus. “Atlus Online is excited to bring this popular game in its new incarnation to a wide range of players around the world. Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent is a great first entertainment experience to lay the foundation of the unparalleled content and unmatched social interaction planned for the Atlus Online portal.”

Developed by JoyImpact and licensed by HanbitSoft, Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent will be given the same style and caliber of localization that Atlus has been known for over the years. This fresh version of the game will be published by Atlus Online for players in North America, South America, and anywhere else in the world, except Europe. In addition to the thorough localization, Atlus Online’s Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent will feature an engaging story influenced by the distinctive steampunk genre.

Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent transports players to a world where two nations battle over a precious resource called Neo Steam. From the onset, customization is key to each player’s experience, where they can choose which nation to join and select from a number of specialized classes. As players battle to expand their nation’s resources and protect their borders from invasion, they must learn to harness the Neo Steam technology to upgrade their equipment, learn new abilities, and progress in their chosen class. Each player in Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent also begins with the aid of a pet of their choosing. Pets act as guides as players travel the world, and they even assist in battle with various abilities, such as healing or thievery. A pet’s ability list and appearance can be customized to suit the player’s preferences. Adding to the immersive aspect of the steampunk fantasy world, the game also features various forms of steam-based machines and vehicles for faster in-game traveling.

More information about Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent’s beta and launch dates will be released by Atlus Online in the near future. Gamers and Atlus fans eager to join the Atlus Online community and be among the first to receive more information on the game can visit the only official website for Atlus Online’s Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent, neosteam.atlusonline.com.

My FaceBook? Screw it.

February 21st, 2009

A few friends of mine have been telling me to get a FaceBook for a couple of years now, and seeing as how I never wanted one, I never created one for myself. A couple of days ago one of these friends decided to create the profile himself and he sent me the password today. I wasn’t even going to check it out at all, but another one of my friends accidentally dialed my number earlier today and started talking about my facebook friends, and who he should add. Dumb ass didn’t realize it was me until I asked him “What the fuck are you talking about?”

Now I couldn’t just leave my own profile out there like that while my friends went on adding people that I never really liked from my High School days. I logged onto the shit and noticed that they had put up a profile picture of me SLEEPING. This was a picture taken while we were up in Winnipeg and I was really out of it, sleeping on the floor in the hotel room. Ugly ass picture, as you can imagine. So I proceeded to look at all of the comments on “my wall” as facebook calls it, and not surprisingly, everyone besides a select few people actually thought it was me. I was pretty angry, so I edited my profile and changed a few things: I basically said I was engaged, gay, a republican, and agnostic. Not me at all, of course.

After I had done that, I went over to one of my friends walls and asked him if he could “Take my gay ass pictures off your shit.” He has a few on there that are fairly… not to my liking. Hopefully he does in fact take the pictures off, as I won’t know because I deactivated my account. Not looking forward to going on there again.

All of this has pissed me off. First of all, I would have been 100% fine if they had made a serious profile and not some shit that shows me sleeping on the floor. I would have been fine if they didn’t add people that I disliked, or even hardly knew at all. I was actually going to make a facebook myself a few months from now to keep in touch with my friends, but that’s not an option anymore. I’m done with this shit.

About Us

February 21st, 2009

Note: This is just one part of the Infinite Blue. To view everything else we have to offer, please visit us here.

The following is taken directly from our main site:

Overview:

Infinite Blue is a gaming community that was established back in February of ‘06. Here at IBC, we focus on community interaction. Each and every one of us here is, or even was, a gamer. We play competitive or cooperative matches together, we discuss various games and their quirks, we write reviews… everything.

That being said, IBC is not only for gamers, but anyone that is interested in having online discussions with each other. We do, however, focus on gaming, but that is merely one aspect of what we really are: a community.

History:

As it was stated above, IBC (an acronym for the Infinite Blue Community) was established in February of 2006. At first we were merely a forum running the InvisionFree software, with our founder Pennel at the helm. However, in the days of old we were not a community per se, but a clan. A clan dedicated to Nintendo DS Wi-Fi games that were introduced late in 2005 (more specifically, Mario Kart DS). For about two years we migrated from site to site, trying to make as many improvements as we could. It gave us spurts of activity, but nothing really seemed to satisfy us until we made the transformation from “clan” to “community.” That was what we really were, a community. We played games, yes, but we were not your typical hardcore gamers that were extremely competitive. We liked to talk and we were extremely active on our forums, so we eventually made that transition; it was a great one. We have been a community for a little over a year now, I believe. IBC is still going strong, and is making constant changes.

Goal:

IBC has no specific goals to accomplish as a community. We want growth, and we have growth, but as a whole we are really just here to talk about and play each other in video games. We are not striving to become the biggest and the best gaming site; we are humble and always will be.

We do have regular updates to the web site, with extra content being added, more images put into the gallery (by the staff and our members alike), and blogs being posted. So there is no worries about lacking updates here at IBC. =)

Staff and Management:

Finally, our staff. Take note that IBC is a non-profit website and all of our staff are volunteers that love to help people.

Cheeseweasel - ROOT Administrator. He runs mostly the far back-end of things here, such as our database.

Tecca - ROOT Administrator. He is one of the community admins that brings in the features of IBC such as the blogs and Image Gallery.

2Bad - Administrator. He is a community administrator that has been brought onto our team through activity and willingness to help.

IBC Moderators are:

Dr. Sha

Fluffyooki

KOG

spark

The above four help out on the moderation end of things, and keeping the community active and involved. If you have any problems or questions, don’t be afraid to send one of them a Private Message on our forums.
